The Bridge Tavern, Holbury

Bridge Tavern, Holbury

The Bridge Tavern was situated at Ipers Bridge. This pub closed in 2013 and is now due for demolition, to be replaced by a retirement residence.
We where told about this place on our Facebook page by one of our members (Jordan) and just had to check it out! The access was easy considering there where no doors so you could literally just walk straight in.
Kids have obviously trashed the place but it was still a pretty good place to explore! We also made it onto the roof which was rather fun! Although we where hoping to find a basement of some sort but couldn’t seem to see any doors with stairs leading down. But the bars and the roofs defiantly made the place worth going to!

  1. How old is this tavern I have some pictures of Me in my pram outside in the late 50s and also a picture of me with Jan biffen out where the out side toilet used to be I lived the other side of the road up the gravel track there used to be a farm there and the farmer was called brooms and my mum used to take me there to see the animals and just up the road there was a petrol station run by Steve brewer who then ran the paramount store at blackfield and holbury

  2. It has been in the heart of the local community for more than 100 years. Unfortunately we couldn’t find much information about this pub although we noticed there was defiantly some sort of farm land just on the right of it! I hope this helps 🙂

    • the company that brought it was questmap and they did advertise it for lease hold but didn’t get a tenant…I myself applied but the money was too much and they had already decided to let it go to rack and ruin rather than let anyone have a chance with it….I ran the Langley tavern once a few yrs ago and thought this would be an ideal opertunity being close to beauli but alas now its in tatters…when I last saw the inside it was ready to rock n roll but alas vandals have trashed it

  3. Best bikers pub for miles back in the late 70’s early 80’s. Only pub where people went outside to smoke in them days!!!
Any of the old crew still on 2 wheels these days?

    • So sad to see the bridge tavern like this , walk past it with dog most days , my first regular pub , thank God the old mill is still open .

  4. this is heart broken as i love it there now it rack and rurin it such a shame and it will cost to much to get it back as a pub i still miss it now every time i drive pass it i just flood of tyres such a shame

  5. This is so sad to see my friends used to run this pub I used to work there I was also the darts captain for years and spent many goods nights here it’s such a shame to see it like this .

  6. I only went in there once and that was when Mr Biffin was the Landlord. I used to watch him when he played centre0half for Blackfield & Langley FC. I can’t be certain, but I was told that it was in this pub that the football club was founded, and that must be a century ago, or not far off.
